Today's News
Here are the top 5 recent news items on artificial intelligence:
1./ AI Boosts Jobs and Wages, Debunking Common Fears, PwC Study Finds
New research by PwC challenges widespread fears about artificial intelligence, finding instead that AI increases both employment opportunities and wages. Contrary to concerns about job losses, the 2025 Global AI Jobs Barometer reveals that occupations most exposed to AI saw significant productivity gains, wage increases, and job growth. Workers with AI skills now earn, on average, 56% more than peers without such skills. The report advises treating AI as a growth strategy to create innovative roles and industries, emphasizing that AI makes employees “more valuable, not less.”

2./ Anthropic Launches ‘Claude Gov’ AI for Military and Intelligence Agencies
Anthropic introduced Claude Gov, a specialized version of its Claude AI tailored for U.S. defense and intelligence agencies, directly competing with OpenAI’s ChatGPT Gov. The new AI product has looser restrictions to process classified information more effectively and is optimized for threat assessment, intelligence analysis, and multilingual capabilities pertinent to national security. Anthropic stated these models have already been deployed at the highest levels of U.S. national security but emphasized strict controls remain in place to prevent misuse or harm.
3./ OpenAI Shuts Down Influence Operations Linked to China, Russia, and Iran Using ChatGPT
OpenAI announced it has disrupted ten covert influence operations over the past three months, with four linked to China, as well as others tied to Russia and Iran. The China-linked groups used OpenAI’s ChatGPT to write deceptive posts, comments, and marketing materials on various social media platforms, simulating organic user engagement and promoting pro-China narratives. One Chinese operation even created internal performance reviews detailing their activities. Despite these sophisticated tactics, OpenAI noted the AI-enhanced operations didn't significantly increase engagement or audience reach.

4./ FDA’s Rapid AI Rollout Faces Backlash Over Errors and Hype
The FDA’s launch of Elsa, an agency-wide large language model intended to streamline regulatory tasks, has sparked criticism from employees who say the AI was prematurely released, buggy, and overly hyped by senior officials. Despite promises by FDA Commissioner Marty Makary and Chief AI Officer Jeremy Walsh that Elsa would accelerate clinical reviews and administrative processes, early tests produced inaccurate and misleading responses. Staff concerns highlight insufficient guardrails and the tool’s current unsuitability for scientific tasks, prompting doubts about the rushed implementation driven by aggressive timelines and cost-cutting measures under the Trump administration.

5./ Latest AI Model Earns Top Grades on Law School Exams, New Study Shows
OpenAI's newest generative AI model, o3, can excel at law school final exams, earning grades ranging from A+ to B at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, according to recent research. This represents a major advancement from earlier AI systems like ChatGPT, which previously scored significantly lower. The improved performance stems from o3's reasoning capabilities, allowing it to internally evaluate and revise responses before finalizing answers. Despite impressive results in subjects like Constitutional Law and Property, the AI showed limitations in administrative law due to outdated knowledge, highlighting ongoing challenges with timeliness in AI-generated responses.
Today's Takeaway
These headlines underscore AI’s dramatic evolution from a theoretical disruptor to an influential actor reshaping society's core functions, from employment and national security to legal education and regulatory oversight. PwC’s report confronts fears head-on, suggesting AI not only enhances productivity but significantly uplifts wages, presenting AI as economic ally rather than adversary. Yet, the juxtaposition with Anthropic’s specialized military-grade Claude Gov and OpenAI’s crackdown on covert influence campaigns reveals a darker, cautionary side: as AI scales up, it also intensifies risks, potentially becoming a tool for geopolitical manipulation or a rushed regulatory shortcut, as seen vividly at the FDA. Moreover, the remarkable prowess of OpenAI’s latest model on law exams spotlights AI’s escalating intellectual capacity, hinting at profound implications for professional expertise, credentialing, and human roles. Together, these stories signal a pivotal crossroads: AI’s transformative promise comes bundled with complexity and peril, necessitating sophisticated governance to harness its benefits while diligently mitigating its risks.
