Where I interview Brian Liu, founder of LegalZoom, about his journey democratizing legal services and how his new ventures continue advancing access to justice for millions
This is a great interview with. Brian Liu on the origins of LegalZoom. I started my lawyer.com around the same time but went in a different direction. I remember around 2001, I appeared with Al Roker on the Today Show with LegalZoom on solving common legal problems on line at low cost. Today there are literally hundreds of web sites that offer online legal services. A lot has changed in 25 years.
Interesting to hear him say that Nolo only offered tear out forms at the time of LZ founding?! As someone who led software development at Nolo through the 90’s, I beg to differ! By the time of the OJ trial, Nolo had been publishing WillMaker software for about ten years and had added Living Trust Maker by then. You didn’t need a typewriter to make your Will or Living Trust. Nolo’s self-help legal software sales were brisk in those years and provided the bulk of Nolo’s revenue in the late 90s.
